Local roundup: Thetford baseball upends White River Valley
SOUTH ROYALTON — Boone Fahey tossed a gem for the Thetford Academy baseball team on Tuesday, leading the visiting Panthers over White River Valley, 9-2.
Fahey went all seven innings for Thetford, striking out 13 while allowing four hits and zero earned runs. Fahey helped his own cause at the dish, going 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored.
“Boone pitched a great game for us today. He was dominant from start to finish,” Thetford coach Phil Chaput said. “We had some timely hits from the top of our order to propel our offense. WRV is a quality team and a local rival; it’s always good to get those types of wins.”
Nolan Pepe helped set the tone for the opportunistic Panthers, going 3-for-3 with a walk and scoring three runs. Jacob Gilman and Xander Oshiniyi each had two hits, scored twice and drove in one. Owen Goodrich had two hits, including a double, and drove in four.
Robby McShinsky pitched all seven innings for WRV, striking out nine against a pair of walks. McShinsky had a hit and drove in one. Tattin Griffin added a double. Ty Couture and Loren Young each had a hit and scored a run.
Both teams return to action on Thursday, when Thetford (2-1) hosts Blue Mountain and WRV (4-2) visits Mill River.
WESTMINSTER, Vt. — The Yellowjackets out-hit the Terriers, 7-4, but could not pull out the victory on the road.
Junior Johnny Clark had two hits and drove in two runs for Windsor and also struck out 13 in five innings on the mound. The Jacks (0-5) host Brattleboro on Thursday.

Rebecca Osgood had a grand slam in the seventh and finished with two hits and six RBIs for Thetford. Madi Mousley and Makayla Stanley each went 2-for-3.
Stanley went six innings in the circle for the Panthers, allowing six hits and three runs while fanning four. Paige Tremblay added an inning of relief. Coach Michelle Morgan was happy to report Thetford didn’t walk anyone and had just two errors.
Vanessa Crawford pitched five innings for WRV, allowing seven runs on five hits. Ava Patch had two hits, scored once and drove in one. Tanner Drury had a hit, a run and one RBI.
Thetford visits Peoples on Thursday. WRV (1-4) hosts Otter Valley, also on Thursday.
WINDSOR — The Terriers rallied late to pick up the win over the Yellowjackets (2-3).
Windsor scored twice in the first inning to hold the early lead. Bellows Falls would rally back with two runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth to secure the win.
Pitcher Molly Burke had a strong game, according to coach Wendy Moody, striking out five while walking just two. Cassie Clark had a triple for the Jacks, scoring on a Sydney Perry fielder’s choice. Mackenzie Kleefisch and Piper Vivian each made a pair of nice catches to record key outs.
“We played another solid game,” coach Moody said. “We’ll get to work on some minor adjustments as we look ahead. We competed against a quality opponent, and we will take that as we move forward.”
Windsor hosts Brattleboro on Thursday.
ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. — The Hurricanes remained unbeaten at 5-0 after a dominant win at St. Johnsbury. Hartford looks to make it six straight when it hosts Mt. Abraham on Monday.
WOODSTOCK — The Wasps (1-2) picked up their first win of the season.
Woodstock is at South Burlington on Wednesday.
HANOVER — The Bears improved to 2-1 and host Kingswood on Friday.
BENNINGTON, Vt. — The Wasps swept the singles matches in Tuesday’s win over the Patriots.
Woodstock’s straight-set victories came from Brooke Hecker (6-2, 6-1 at No. 1), Hannah Watson (6-3, 6-1 at No. 2), Sophia Nisimblat (6-3, 6-4 at No. 3) and Charlotte Nunan (6-0, 6-0 at No. 5). Chloe Masillo, at No. 4 singles, won in a tiebreak.
Tess Belisle and Mia Zilian recorded a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 1 doubles. Woodstock (2-0) is at Mount St. Joseph on Saturday.
NORTH CONWAY, N.H. — Carter Nadeau won the 400 meters for the Royals, Garrett Giovagnoli took first in the discus and Emily Brewster topped the field in the shot put.
The boys’ 4x100 relay team of Shane Loynds, Nadeau, Giovagnoli and Logan Gilmore finished with a time of 48.17 seconds, six-hundredths of a second off the school record.
Host Kennett won overall for both the boys and girls.
