HARTFORD — A rock slide on Interstate 91 on Thursday night resulted in damage to several vehicles but no injuries, according to the Hartford Fire Department.
State and local emergency crews, including the Hartford Fire Department, Vermont State Police and Vermont Department of Transportation, assisted a clean-up of fallen rock on I-91 South, just south of the Hartford Welcome Center. A collapse of the rock cliff that borders the Interstate resulted in a spillage of “softball-sized” rock fragments into the roadway that caused severe tire damage to approximately 10-15 vehicles, according to a report from the Hartford Fire Department.
The Hartford Fire Department arrived on scene at 8 p.m. to assess damages and help secure the area. Traffic was directed into a single passing lane while state road crews cleared large rock from the highway.
No injuries were reported, according to the report, though some vehicles had been disabled from the damage incurred and had to be towed.
The cleanup of the Interstate was complete by 10 p.m, according to the Hartford Fire Department report.
An attempt to email Adam Silverman, communications officer for the Vermont State Police, received an auto-reply that Silverman would be out of the office until Monday.
