Amos Daisey, of Orford, cleans a deer skull while making a European skull mount for a customer on March 7. Using deer, boar and bear heads, Daisey boils them for hours, cleans and dries the skulls before brushing their teeth and using a whitener. He said the whole process takes about three days. Daisey’s family farm, Cotton Stone Farm, was started by his grandfather. Today, the family runs a wholesale cut-flower business, a bait shop and a meat-cutting business. “We’re trying to make the farm work,” he said.

ORFORD — After more than two hours of debate, Rivendell voters approved a $15.8 million school budget, but defeated an article that would have moved future budget votes to an all-day Australian ballot format.

Article of note: One article asks whether voters want to replace the High Bridge Road bridge at an estimated cost of $1.5 million, with the town responsible for 20%, or about $300,000, and the state picking up the remainder. A separate vote on funding would take place at Town Meeting next year, if voters support the replacement.
