Hanover opens swim season with a win

LEBANON — The Hanover boys and girls swim teams came out on top in its opening season meet, defeating Lebanon, Stevens and Mascoma in a dual meet format at the CCBA Witherell Recreation Center on Tuesday.
Hanover’s Claire Uiterwyk, Sofia Ye, Adelaide Cesanek and Elizabeth Staats won the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 2 mins.
Cesanek won the 200 freestyle (2:23) and Staats won the 100 free (57:27) and 100-yard backstroke (1:06).
Mascoma’s Andrew Prince, who practices with Lebanon, won the 100-yard free (58:52) and 50 free (26:44). Stevens Sara Gaspard was first in the 50 free (26.89) and Gaspard, Aubree Herzog, Emilee Hall and Raegyn Brothers won to 200 free relay (2:01), Gabriel Clerkin of Hanover won the 100-yard backstroke (59:34), Ye, the 100-yard breaststroke (1:12) and Hanover’s Alex Chen the 100-yard breaststroke (1:15)
“It was our first meet of the season and the team had a fantastic showing,” Hanover coach Trent Staats said. “We have a great mix of new athletes and old and this was an early season opportunity to experience competition.”
Hanover is back in action at the CCBA on Monday. The next meet for Lebanon and Stevens is on Jan. 3 at Colby-Sawyer College.
