Work’s hay day

Duane Lawrence, 77, caretaker at the Duffy Farm in Tunbridge, Vt., prepares to rake a field of hay into on Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2024, to keep it dry overnight before tedding it for a fifth time in three days, raking and baling it on Thursday. He was giving extra effort to drying the hay because it will be square-baled for horses. "Today was an excellent hay day," said Lawrence. "Let's hope we don't get a lot this rain this time," he said of the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby, which are predicted to bring heavy rain to already saturated areas of the state on Friday.
