Town Meeting: Weathersfield approves school, town budgets

WEATHERSFIELD — Voters approved the Weathersfield School District budget of $7.49 million in Town Meeting Day ballot voting.

As approved, the school budget is expected to result in education spending of $20,813 per equalized pupil, which is nearly 1% less than the current year.

On the municipal side, voters approved a general fund budget of $1.6 million, of which $1.3 million is expected to come from taxes.

They also approved a proposed highway fund budget is $1.17 million, of which $946,000 is slated to come from taxes. A separate article asks voters for $335,000 to support the town’s solid waste facility. 

With 136 votes, Kelly O’Brien won a two-year seat on the Selectboard, beating out Joseph Bublat and Matthew Walasewicz, who earned 120 and 82 votes respectively.

At the in-person Town Meeting on Saturday, voters approved all articles before them, including one that asked if voters would raise the business personal property tax exemption from $10,000 to $50,000.
