Vice President JD Vance plans to make a visit to Vermont, Gov. Phil Scott’s office confirmed Monday afternoon.

According to The Valley Reporter, which broke the news, Vance has planned a ski trip to Sugarbush Resort in Warren this weekend and intends to stay at the Pitcher Inn, also in Warren.

The Vermont State Police has been working closely with federal, county and local law enforcement partners as a standard procedure whenever a president, vice president or other head of state visits Vermont, according to spokesperson Adam Silverman.

“Members of the public should expect an increased law-enforcement presence in areas near the vice president’s location and may encounter related delays,” Silverman wrote in an email. “VSP encourages the public to plan for delays and be patient if traveling in the area this weekend.”

Scott does not have plans to meet with Vance at this time, according to Amanda Wheeler, his press secretary.

“The Governor does have confidence in law enforcement, both at the state and local level. They will work closely with federal partners to ensure the safety of all, as they have in the past during visits by other high-ranking officials to Vermont,” Wheeler said in a statement.

Vermont’s Republican governor has been consistently critical of President Donald Trump and his administration.

This wouldn’t be the first time that a vice president serving under Trump has visited Vermont. Then-Vice President Mike Pence traveled to the state for Labor Day in 2018 and 2019.
