Bucket brigade

Jim Moeykens collects sap in the Old South Cemetery in Windsor, Vt., on Friday, March 14, 2025. Moeykens and his wife Lori have 21 three-gallon buckets, many of them full from the large maple trees that line the cemetery. Both are members of the Old South Church, adjacent to the cemetery. Moeykens has been making syrup for five or six years, giving it to family and friends. This is the first year he has tapped the large maples, he guesses the trees are about 150 years old.
