SPRINGFIELD, Vt. — Nurses at Springfield Hospital have successfully negotiated an extension to their union contract with hospital management, according to a news release.
The agreement replaces a contract originally negotiated in 2022. It will run through May 2028. The union, United Nurses and Allied Professionals Local 5122, represents about 65 nurses at Springfield Hospital.
Key provisions of the contract include wage increases across the board and subsequent step increases, stipends for nurses who volunteer to serve on an ambulance transport team, and provisions that restrict hiring travel nurses and hiring nurses who are more or less qualified than a certain position might require.
“The nurses who serve patients at Springfield Hospital work extremely hard in difficult circumstances, and we are pleased that we have a new contract that recognizes our sacrifices,” Emergency Room nurse and UNAP Local 5122 President Alicia Reed said in the release.
Last year, a union drive at nearby Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center failed after Dartmouth Health invested heavily in anti-union consulting companies.
