Here’s a look at some of the Upper Valley residents who played varsity collegiate sports during the spring season:

BASEBALL

Bowdoin (18-17) enjoyed the services of freshman pitcher Sam Sacerdote (Norwich/Hanover), who started three times in 15 appearances, going 0-4 with a 4.08 ERA. … Timber Russell (White River Valley), a senior pitcher for Norwich (14-24), made seven appearances totaling 10⅓ innings. He had a 4.35 ERA with 13 strikeouts and seven walks. … Florida’s Stetson University won the Atlantic Sun Conference and reached NCAA regional play, losing to No. 8 Florida State and No. 16 Central Florida and beating Alabama. Sophomore pitcher Brendan Walker (Kimball Union Academy) was 2-0 with a 5.32 ERA while striking out 17 batters and walking 15. He made 15 appearances, totaling 23⅔ innings for the Hatters (41-22), who last won more games during a season in 2018. … Western New England (24-20) received a .286 batting average and 40 RBIs from sophomore outfielder Jack Loftus (Norwich/Hanover), who struck out 50 times while drawing 25 walks. He started each of the 41 games he played. … Sophomore Preston Hewett (Plainfield/Lebanon) appeared in two games for Vermont’s St. Michaels College (11-30).

CREW

The University of Rhode Island won its 10th Atlantic 10 Conference title. Freshman Anna Kann (Plainfield/Lebanon) helped the Rams’ second varsity 4+ boat finish third out of five teams in 8:16 at the conference championships. … Junior Lena Nowell (Lebanon) competed in the fifth seat for Union College’s women’s crew team, which won the varsity eight petit final in 7:41 at the Liberty League championship. … Wellesley College (Mass.) sophomore Sage Gilbert-Diamond (Hanover) was part of the varsity eight boat that finished third at the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference championships in 7:12. … Fairfield University’s varsity eight finished fifth in the third final at the Dad Vail Regatta in New Jersey with freshman Ean Ray (Grantham/Lebanon) aboard for the Connecticut school. … Northeastern University freshman Hannah Boone (Norwich/Hanover) rowed in the four seat and helped the varsity eight finish third at the Eastern Sprints grand final in 7:37. Teammate and Huskies junior Madelyn Bridge (Strafford) helped the fourth varsity eight finish third in 7:42 at the same event. … Junior Noah Phipps (Norwich/Hanover) stroked in the eighth seat as Williams College’s first varsity eight boat finished second at the Division III IRA national championships in 5:41. … Tufts University (Mass.) junior Reilly Uiterwyk (Hanover) was on the Jumbos’ second varsity, which finished as NCAA Division III national runners-up in 6:58. Tufts won the overall national title based on winning the first varsity and its second varsity showing. Tufts’ fourth varsity boat won a National Invitational Rowing championship with junior Sophia Brackett (Hanover) helping produce a time of 7:26 to win a three-way race. Freshman Lyra Bornholdt-Collins (Hanover) was part of the fifth varsity craft’s victory over three foes in 7:40. … Angus Hall (Lebanon), a Union freshman, rowed in the second varsity boat at the Liberty League championships that finished third out of five teams in 6:44. Another Garnet Chargers rookie, Danny Bender (Norwich/Hanover) rowed in the novice four boat at the same event, losing a head-to-head race to Rochester by 3.2 seconds. … Hannah Burdick (Lyme/Hanover), a junior at Maine’s Bates College, rowed in the third seat as the Bobcats’ varsity eight finished second in the Division III New England Championships Petite Final in 7:01. Teammate and sophomore Merrill Doherty (Hanover) was part of a third varsity boat was sixth in 7:51 during the Grand Final.

MEN’S LACROSSE

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (N.Y.) was 17-3 and earned the most season victories in program history. Senior captain and midfielder Nick Porter (Quechee/Hartford) played in 17 games and had one goal, 16 ground balls and seven caused turnovers. … Senior co-captain and defenseman Jake Dulac (Lebanon) started all 14 games in which he played for UMass (6-8) and had 16 ground balls and seven caused turnovers. The New Hampton School graduate started 44 of 59 games in his college career. … Vassar College (N.Y.) sophomore attackman Baker Morton (West Hartford) played 15 games, starting one, and put up 12 goals and eight assists for the Brewers (9-6). … Junior midfielder Hill Carter (Hanover/KUA) posted five goals and one assist while playing in 10 games and starting once for Ohio’s Kenyon College (13-6).… Oberlin College (Ohio) was 10-6 with sophomore midfielder Dylan Hendrick (Lyme/Hanover) producing a goal and an assist during the 15 games in which he played for the Yeomen. He started six times. … Scoring twice and assisting twice during the eight games in which he appeared for Connecticut College (5-9) was Camels junior midfielder Colter Lingelbach-Pierce (Etna/KUA)… St. Lawrence senior midfielder Brendan Brigham (Norwich/Hanover) played 58 collegiate games and took one shot. The faceoff man won 56% of his 454 draws and scooped up 104 ground balls this spring for the Saints (15-4), who reached the second round of the NCAA Division III playoffs. … Matt Sites (Plainfield/KUA), a junior defenseman at St. Michael’s, appeared in six games for the Purple Knights (9-5).

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

Middlebury was 23-0 for the second consecutive season and won its second consecutive NCAA Division III title. Sophomore Caroline Adams (Norwich/Hanover) started 16 of the 18 games she played and was third in points (53), accumulated on 33 goals and 20 assists. She took 137 draws. … Duke (10-9) went 4-5 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Senior midfielder Maddie McCorkle (Hanover) appeared in every game, started 15 of them and had 19 goals and eight assists. … Maine-Farmington was 5-9 with junior defender Lydia Eastman (Sharon Academy) posting two goals and six assists while starting 12 of the 14 games in which she played. … Sophomore goaltender Sarah Howe (Tunbridge/Hartford) appeared in five games and started seven for Keene State (12-6). She posted a .488 save percentage.

MEN’S TRACK

Plymouth State freshman Nick Lamontagne (Lebanon) finished fifth in a pair of hurdle races. He ran 58.8 seconds in the 400 at Southern New Hampshire in April and 17.3 seconds in the 100 at the same school a month earlier. … Franklin Pierce was second at the Northeast 10 Conference championships, aided by senior Tad Darrah (Thetford/Thetford Academy), who posted personal bests in four events during the season. He won the NE10 title in the 10,000 meters at 32:06. … St. Lawrence sophomore Jack Simack (Sharon/White River Valley) set personal bests in the javelin (173 feet, 3 inches) and the discus (100-7). … University of Wisconsin sophomore Pierce Seigne (Norwich/Hanover) ran a career-best 3:42 in the 1,500 meters in early May before finishing 16th at the Big Ten Championships in 3:53… Northeastern freshman Ian Solberg (Hanover) was fourth in the high jump at the Colonia Athletic Association championships, clearing 6-4.

WOMEN’S TRACK

Plymouth State senior Mackenzie Labrie (Canaan/Mascoma) ran a personal-best in the 200 meters at 26.90 seconds during a meet at Tufts. … Another PSU runner, junior Abby Snow (Grantham/Lebanon), ran the fastest 800 meters of her life at the Little East Conference championships, finishing in 2:33.9 and helping her team finish fourth out of eight schools. … Grace Davis (Thetford/Thetford Academy), a senior at Quinnipiac, was seventh in the high jump at 4-7 at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championships. The Bobcats finished second out of 10 teams. … Castleton sophomore Bethany Davis (White River Junction/Hartford) was fourth in the 10,000 meters with a personal-best mark of 42:09 during the Little East Conference championships. The Spartans finished last in the eight-team event. … Junior Faye Stevens (Barnard/Woodstock), a Vassar College (N.Y.) heptathlete, was second at the Liberty League championships and posted a career-best throw of 26-7 in the shot put earlier in the season. … Janiah Young (Perkinsville/Windsor), a sophomore at Southern Maine, won the 100 meters at the Little East Conference championships in 12.5 seconds. … The University of New Hampshire finished seventh out of nine teams at the America East Conference championships. Sophomore Opal Shinnlinger (Enfield/Mascoma) was sixth in the discus (112-1) and 17th in the shot put (37-2)… Southern Connecticut finished third at the NCAA Division II New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association. Junior Ella Maclean (Hanover) won the 100 meters in 11.78 seconds and was part of winning relay teams in the 4x100 (46.40) and the 4x400 (3:46).

SOFTBALL

Freshman Marina Grassi (Hartford) appeared in 10 games for Lasell University (Mass.) but had no plate or pitching appearances for the Lasers (25-18). Also on the roster was sophomore utility player Emma Tarleton (Woodstock). … Blake Southworth (Bethel/White River Valley), a junior softball infielder at Northern Vermont-Lyndon (8-19), led the team with a .341 batting average and started 22 of the 23 games in which she competed. … Rhianna DeCosta (Mascoma), a freshman at New Hampshire Technical College, started two of the seven games in which she appeared. The Lynx (0-7) restarted their program this spring after not fielding a team during the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

OTHER SPORTS

Senior Mackayla O’Meara (Grantham/Lebanon) played for the University of New England 7s rugby team, scoring in the season finale, a loss to Bowdoin. … Senior Joseph Patrick Osborn (Hanover) was 2-4 in singles and 2-5 in doubles for Northern Vermont-Lydon (4-8). … Mary Baldwin College (Va.) women’s tennis was 2-13 with senior Hannah Eastridge (Windsor) captaining the squad and posting 3-11 records in singles and doubles. She also competed in track and finished seventh in the 100-meter hurdles in 20.8 seconds at the USA South  Conference championships
