SOUTH ROYALTON — A local group has launched a crowdfunding campaign, sponsored by the Vermont Department of Housing and Community Development’s Better Places program, to raise money for a summer music and film series on the South Royalton green, according to a news release.

Moon and Stars, which is pursuing nonprofit status, is a South Royalton-based organization that seeks to connect community, traditional food and regenerative farming. Through the summer film and music series, the group aims to bring the community together to eat, learn and play.

The programing will be free and include music on a porch facing the green, as well as films from SIMA Studios, a Los Angeles-based distribution company that is focused on social and environmental productions. There will be child-friendly games and free ice cream for children from Kiss the Cow Farm in Barnard and Strafford Creamery. The group’s arepa cart also will be on hand serving arepas, empanadas and tamales.

If the campaign reaches its $3,500 goal by July 5, the “Moon and Stars Summer Series” will receive a matching grant of $7,000 from the Better Places program.
