CHELSEA — A Randolph man who lit a fire inside a vacant Randolph home last January has pleaded guilty to second-degree arson and to violating his conditions of release on prior criminal charges.

Clair Sherman, 41, was sentenced to one to five years in prison, all suspended except for 30 days and probation of 12 months in Orange County Superior Court in Chelsea on Nov. 11, according to court records.

Sherman entered a vacant home on Dudley Street in Randolph on Jan. 29 with a “flammable device” and was seen lighting a fire inside the structure, Vermont State Police said in a news release following his arrest and charges last January.

The resulting fire destroyed the home.
