RANDOLPH — A Randolph man was arrested on charges of arson over the weekend, according to Vermont State Police.

Clair Sherman, 40, is being held without bail at Southern State Correctional Facility in Springfield, Vt., and was scheduled to appear in Orange County Criminal Court in Chelsea on Monday at 12:30 p.m., according to a Sunday police news release.

On Saturday at about 11:15 p.m., State Police troopers responded to a report of a man trying to enter a home at 10 Dudley Street in Randolph while carrying a “flammable device”.

Police allege that Sherman was seen lighting a fire at the Dudley Street home. Police later located Sherman at his home and took him into custody. He was taken to the Royalton police barracks and then lodged in Springfield.

State Police ask those with information about the fire to contact them at 802-234-9933 or the Vermont Arson Tip Award Program at 800-32-ARSON.
