Town Meeting preview: Randolph weighs allowing Selectboard to appoint treasurer and clerk

Article of note: From the floor at Town Meeting, voters will be asked whether to authorize the Selectboard to appoint a town clerk and a town treasurer.

Contested races: Three people, Thomas Remp, Martha S.K. Hafner and Aimil Parmelee, are competing to represent Randolph in a three-year term on the Orange Southwest School Board. Molly Mullen (Harrness) and Tom Ayres are both running for a two-year term on the Selectboard. Alissa Matthews is unopposed for a three-year term on the Selectboard.

Budgets and spending articles:The proposed general fund budget is $3.75 million, of which an estimated $2.1 million is to come from taxes. The proposed highway budget is $2.2 million, of which $1.8 million is to come from taxes. The proposed budget for the Kimball Public Library is $392,000, of which $333,000 is to come from taxes. The proposed budget for the police district is $729,000, with $465,000 to come from taxes. The proposed budget for the water district is $650,000. The proposed budget for the sewer district is $924,000. The proposed budget for the Orange Southwest School District, which in addition to Randolph also includes Brookfield and Braintree, Vt., is $26.7 million.

When, where and how to vote:A public hearing and informational meeting will take place on Monday, Feb. 26 at 5 p.m. in-person at 7 Summer Street or online via Zoom at: zoom.us/j/2271876830. In-person Town Meeting is scheduled for Saturday, March 2 at 10 a.m. at Chandler Music Hall, 71-73 North Main Street. The in-person Orange Southwest School District meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 4 at 6 p.m. in the auditorium at Randolph Union High School. Australian ballot voting is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, March 5 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 7 Summer Street.
