NEW LONDON — New London Hospital will be led by Dr. Lauren A. Geddes Wirth on an interim basis beginning next month, Dartmouth Health announced in a Tuesday news release.

Geddes Wirth, New London Hospital’s chief medical officer, is set to begin the interim CEO post on April 3. She will replace outgoing CEO Tom Manion, who is to become chief operating officer at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.

Geddes Wirth will retain her role as chief medical officer, while she serves as interim CEO.

“I am committed to fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and inclusivity that empowers our staff to advance NLH’s mission of providing exceptional care and service to our community,” Geddes Wirth said in the release.

Geddes Wirth, who holds degrees from Dartmouth College and the Brown-Dartmouth Program in Medicine, came to New London in September from the Mass General Brigham health system.

In her six months in New London, “Dr. Geddes Wirth has demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities and a profound understanding of our organization,” Jeff Hollinger, chairman of the hospital’s board of trustees, said in the release.

The board plans to begin a formal search for the permanent position.
