WINDSOR — The Mount Ascutney School Board on Friday selected a new board member to represent Windsor on the two-town board that also includes West Windsor.

The board appointed Megan Reed, a 39-year-old Windsor resident, for a one-year term in the seat formerly held by Amy McMullen, according to Board Chairwoman Elizabeth Burrows.

McMullen resigned the post in late March after facing criticism of her presence at the polls on Town Meeting Day when she was re-elected. At the same time, also as a result of the criticism, she also stepped down from her roles as school clerk and Windsor town clerk.

Reed, who works as a dementia specialist for Dartmouth Health and has a first-grader at Windsor School, said in her letter of interest in the position that she values the board’s work and as a board member “would like to ensure that the students and educators are at the forefront of all decisions being made. I see it as the role of public education to ensure that equity in education is achieved and welcoming to all that now reside and may reside in the future in our community.”

The board selected Reed from a pool of three. The other candidates were May Paquin, a Windsor parent of six, and Kaitlyn Gould, a parent and former school district employee who lost to McMullen in Town Meeting Day voting.

Next March, voters are expected to elect a School Board member for the remaining two years on the three-year term.
