finish strong at SVL meet
Woodstock’s James Underwood won the boys 800-, 1,500- and 3,000-meter races at Tuesday’s Southern Vermont League B-Division Track and Field Championship in Windsor, which was won by the Thetford boys and Bellows Falls girls.
In the girls competition, White River Valley’s Casandra Armstrong won the 100 and 200 meters and the pole vault, leading the Wildcats to a second-place finish behind BF. Also for White River Valley, Imari Taylor won the shot put and was second in the discus and Addison Isham won the 100-meter hurdles and was second in the 300, which was won by Thetford’s Maya Dixon, who was second in the 100 hurdles.
The Panthers’ Sebastian Perdrizet and Isaac Yukica went 1-2 in the boys 100 meters, and Yukica was second in the 300 hurdles. Thetford swept the relay races with Hunter Clay, Uly Junker-Boyce, Perdrizet and Yukica winning the 4x100; Yukica, Brady Sloop, Daniel Mann and Hardy Payson taking the 4x400; and Miguel Kutter-Walker, Jay Hill, Mann and Elijah Renner topping the 4x800. David Stanger of Thetford won the discus and was third in the shot put; teammate Connor Sloop was second in the discus. Also for Thetford, Hunter Clay tied Allen Wedge of Woodstock for first in the high jump, Luke Miller won the pole vault and was third in the javelin, Hill was second in the 800 meters andDavid Thaxton finished second in the 200 meters.
For White River Valley, Jack Hughes was second in the 400 meters, the long jump and triple jump and Hayden Mabey took third in the pole vault. Nicholas Cellini of Woodstock was second in the 1,500 and third in the 3,000, and teammate Jack Quicker was third in the 110 hurdles. For Windsor, Tanner Crane won the long jump and Justin Draper was third in the 200 meters.
White River Valley was second in the 4x100 and 4x800 relays.
Other top girls results included Ava Hayden (Thetford, first 400 meters), MaCallister Gray (Sharon, first long jump, second high jump, fourth triple jump), Izzy Cellini (Woodstock, second 800 and 1,500, third 3,000), Olivia Dube (Windsor, second 3,000 meters), Olivia Tuller (Windsor, second shot put) Marz Percy (Windsor, third shot put), Anya Young (White River Valley, second pole vault, 3rd 800 meters, fourth 1,500), Grace Perreault (Woodstock, third 200 meters), Sophia Harvey (Thetford, third 100 meters), Piper Pauly (Woodstock, third, triple jump), Annesonia Beardsley (Woodstock, third pole vault).
Woodstock won the 4x100 relay (Perrault, Beardsley, Pauly, Erin McGuire) with Thetford third. White River was third in the 4x400. Thetford second in the by 4x800 and Windsor third.
