Key players: Mascoma — Abby Waugh, Anna Sullivan, Aaralyn Chiasson, Lyla Payson, Sara McKinney

Highlights: Waugh had seven strikeouts for the night and an RBI to help the Royals get on the board. Sullivan had an impressive game catching, stopping any extra bases with her blocks behind the plate. Sullivan also added offensively with a double to help move her teammates around the bases. Chiasson and Payson dominated play in left and center field, making impressive catches. McKinney also was able to get on base tonight.

Highlights: Ava Kaercher struck out 11 Merrimack Valley batters and seized her high school career goal of 500 strikeouts during NHIAA play. She’s raising the stakes and shooting for 700 before the conclusion of her high school career.

Baseball

Hanover 19, Laconia 2

Key players: Hanover — Wyn Casey (winning pitcher) and Finn Ware (three innings of relief), 5 strikeouts each; Laconia — Riley Galloway (losing pitcher.

Highlights: Jack Lobb, Jojo Drent, Alex Boone and Wyatt Daigle each had two hits for Hanover in the victory.

Unified Basketball

Middlebury 45, Oxbow 34

Key players: Oxbow — Noah Hatch and Skylar Robinson

Highlights: Oxbow bows out in the first round of the VPA playoffs despite a 24-point effort from Hatch.

Track and Field

Newport boys, girls third
at CVC South qualifier

Newport’s Maddox Lovely won the 100-meter dash and the 100- and 300-meter hurdles as the Tigers finished third out of six teams at the Connecticut Valley Conference South qualifier at Monadnock Regional High School on Tuesday.

For the Newport boys, who also finished third, Aaron Fellows won the 400 meters and was second in both the high jump and triple jump. Also first for Newport were Aiden Couitt (long jump), Isaiah Nash (shot put) and Ayden Hodge (javelin).

Newport’s Callie Dixon won the shot put and Torrence Williams the javelin for the girls.

Stevens senior Bella Bovell won the 400 meters. For the Stevens boys, Owen Chapman was second in the 100 meters and Kieran Heath took second in the 200 meters.

Boys team scores: Monadnock 120, Keene, 115, Newport 79, Fall Mountain 67, Stevens 27, Bellows Falls 25.

Girls team scores: Keene 185, Bellows Falls 110, Newport 57, Fall Mountain 30, Stevens 28, Monadnock 27.
