Key players: White River Valley — Wyatt Cadwell, Quinlan Grace, Brayden Russ, Holden Rediker, Donavan Craven, Ty Couture

Highlights: Cadwell gave up just five hits and walked one to give the Wildcats a win over the Wasps. At the plate, White River Valley had 10 hits, two of those coming from Cadwell. Rediker also added two hits. Jacob Benoit went 1-for-4 with a run scored, Russ was1-for-4, Quinlan Grace went 1-for-3 with a triple and two runs scored, Craven went 1-for-3 with an RBI, Couture went 1-for-2 with a run scored and Issac Wimett was 1-for-3.

Key players: White River Valley — Brayden Russ, Quinlan Grace, Wyatt Cadwell, Donavan Craven, Zander Clark, Leland French-Dyer

Highlights: Grace threw the first four innings for the Wildcats and gave up just one hit to go along with his eight strikeouts. At the plate, Grace went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a triple. Russ was 4-for-4 with four runs scored and a double on the day. Cadwell was 2-for-3. Jacob Benoit, Craven, Clark, Issac Wimett, Holden Rediker and French-Dyer all added a hit apiece, with French-Dyer recording his first varsity hit. Clark finished the game for the WRV on the mound throwing two innings giving up two hits and striking out four.

Key players: Blue Mountain — Pitchers Brody Kingsbury and Kris Fennimore combined on a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts; Thetford — Tommy Amber drove in the only Thetford run with a seventh-inning single. Miles Lawrence threw four no-hit innings of relief, striking out seven.

Highlights: Kingsbury threw the first five innings, giving up only two hits and no runs. Fennimore pitched the final two innings to pick up the save for the Bucks.

Key players: Thetford — Winning pitcher Sam Parkman allowed one hit in three innings of relief. JD Farrell 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs for the Panthers.

Highlights: Thetford extended its lead with a four-run third inning. A Parkman squeeze bunt brought in a run, and Dempsey McGovern and Farrell followed with RBI singles. In the fourth inning, Miles Lawrence drove in two runs with a double.

Key players: Hartford — Madi Barwood (6 goals, 3 assists); Audrey Rupp (3 goals, 1 assist); Hailey Vanesse (3 goals, 1 assist); Paige Trembly and Liv Seaver (1 goal each)

Highlights: The Hurricanes were down by three goals right off the start but were able to regain composure and take a six-goal lead in the third quarter, only to have U-32 fight back to bring the score within one goal with four minutes remaining in the game. Great matchup against a very well-coached U-32 team.

Records: Hartford 5-0; U-32 3-2

Softball

Lebanon 17, Hanover 5

Highlights: The Raiders handled the rival Bears in the teams’ first meeting of the season. The two will play each other again in Lebanon on May 27.

Unified Basketball

Oxbow 65, Mount Mansfield 60

Key players: Oxbow — Skylar Robinson, Noah Hatch, Boston French; Mount Mansfield — Nathan Wilcox

Highlights: Robinson dropped in a career-high 18 points on her senior night at Oxbow. Hatch had 29 points and French added 10 to help the Olympians get past the Cougars. Wilcox scored a game-high 34 points in the losing effort for MMU.

Raider boys first, girls second
at Stevens Twilight

The Lebanon boys finished first of 11 teams and the Raider girls were second among 12 teams at the Stevens Twilight meet at Monadnock Park in Claremont on Friday.

First place for Lebanon boys were the 4x800 team (Ian Kiefer, Alistair Smith, Gabriel Herring, Owen Touhy) and the 4x100 squad (Alexzander Averine, Chris Mascean, Oscar Gulledge, Teeghan Joyner). Gulledge won 110-meter hurdles, and Gardell Wetherington took the 300 hurdles.

Other first-place finishes for Upper Valley teams included Maddox Lovely of Newport (100 meters), Owen Chapman of Stevens (100 meters), Lea Perreard of Hanover (1,600 meters), Bella Bovell of Stevens (400 meters), Aiden Pisani of Stevens (400 meters), Kieran Heath of Stevens (200 meters), Millie Larrick of Hanover (3,200 meters), Ryan Faris of Hanover (3,200 meters) Rachel Horak of Lebanon (300 meter hurdles), Tanner Crane of Windsor (long jump), Aaron Fellows of Newport (high jump), Georgia Kondi of Mascoma (shot put, discus), Barnaby Diehn of Mascoma (shot put, discus), Ayden Hodge of Newport (javelin) and Newport’s 4x400 team (Aiden Couitt, Aaron Fellows, Cayden Forand, Christian Forsythe).

Second-place results:

Hanover: Ryan Faris (boys 1,600 meters), Megan Faris (girls 1,600 meters), Safir Mehra (boys 3,200).

Newport: Boys 4x100 (Couitt, Fellows, Forand, Forsythe); Forsythe (boys 400 meters), Torrence Williams (girls javelin, Lovely )girls long jump), John Hooper (300 meter hurdles).

Stevens: Heath (boys 100 meters), Justin McGuire (triple jump).

Thetford boys second
in Burlington meet

The Vermont Division III Thetford Academy boys were second among 21 teams, including Division I and II schools, at Saturday’s Twilight Invitational at Burlington High School.

The Panthers were led by Luke Miller (first in pole vault and javelin; second in 400 meters) and Brady Sloop (first in 800 meters). Evan Rich won the triple jump and was third in the 100 meters for Thetford. Teammates Hunter Clay earned second in the high jump, Matthew Vivian took third in the shot put and Sebastian Perdrizet landed third in the javelin. The Thetford boys 4x400 relay team of Emmett Terry, Miller, Perdrizet and Sloop finished second.

For the Thetford girls, who were ninth in a field of 23 schools, Ava Hayden won the 800 meters and was second in the 1,500 and Maya Dixon was fourth in the 100-meter hurdles.

The Hartford boys finished fifth with Ayodele Lowe winning the high jump and finishing third in the long jump. Also scoring for the Hurricanes were Benjamin Lang, (third, pole vault) and Jayden Forbes (second, triple jump). The Hartford 4x400 relay team of Tighe Hrabchak, Bennett Moreno, Colby Albrecht and Forbes finished third.

Oxbow’s Rueben Keefe was second in the high jump, tied with Thetford’s Clay, and Olympian Oden Schlager was fourth in the discus. Brianna Marsh had the best finish for the Oxbow girls, taking third in the javelin.

Boys team scores: St. Johnsbury 124, Thetford 91, U-32 57, CVU 45, Hartford 40, Rutland 26, Mount Mansfield 25, Montpelier 21, Essex 20, South Burlington 15, Oxbow 12th, 12).

Girls team scores: CVU 91, St. Johnsbury 85, South Burlington 52, U-32 47, Rice 45.5, Colchester 45, Harwood 30, Montpelier 22.5, Rutland 22, Thetford 22, Mount MAnsfield 19, Oxbow (14th, 6) Hartford (21st, 2).

White River Valley wins
field event meet

White River Valley’s Imari Taylor led the Wildcats to a victory in four-team field events meet by winning the shot put, discus and javelin.

Also first were Taylor’s teammates, Cassandra Armstrong (pole vault) and Addison Isham (long jump). Armstrong was also second in the long jump.

For the White River boys, who also won their meet, Jack Hughes won the triple jump and long jump and Hayden Mabey tied for first in the pole vault. Ian Bernier of Green Mountain and Allen Wedge of White River tied Sharon’s Noah Malloy for first in the high jump. For the Sharon girls, MaCallister Gray won the high jump and triple jump.

Boys team scores: White River Valley 92.8, Green Mountain 54, Sharon 41.6, Randolph 24.

Girls team scores: White River Valley 102, Sharon 46.5, Green Mountain 44.5.

Mascoma’s Currier
second at distance festival

Mascoma’s Gunner Currier was second in the 5,000 meters at the New Hampshire Distance Festival at Souhegan High School on Friday.

Currier, a senior, finished the race in 15 minutes and 34 seconds, six seconds behind the winner, Bocelli Howland-Vlahakis of Phillips Exeter Academy.

Trevor Maheu and Carl Russell of Mascoma were ninth and 10th in the field of 16 runners.
