Key players: Hanover — Wyatt Daigle, Beckett Sobel, Roy Lucas
Highlights: Daigle scored a game-high 18 points. Sobel scored 14 and Lucas chipped in with 12 as the Hanover Bears start the season off on the right foot.

Highlights: White River Valley won the fourth annual Stretch Gillam Tipoff Classic by routing Green Mountain Union by 33 points. Clark scored a game-high 21 points and blocked two shots, while Russ poured in 18 points and recorded six steals. Cadwell added nine points, six assists and three rebounds for the Wildcats.

Kearsarge 72, Newport 47

Highlights: Kearsarge opened the season by sweeping past Newport 72-47 Friday night at the Wheeler Gym. The Tigers hung tough for a half going into the break only down 31-26. The Cougars exploded in the second half and cruised to the win. Kearsarge was led by the balanced scoring of Noah Whipple with 17 points, Needham with 16, Elijah Whipple with 13 and Tremblay with 10. Fellows paced the Tigers with 16 points, while Avery tossed in nine and Couitt with seven.

Newport 52, Kearsarge 37
Key players: Newport — Zoey Lord, Taylor Fellows, Skylar Nelson Kearsarge — Ava Shapiro, Ocie Ilg
Highlights: The Newport Tigers led from start-to-finish and beat the defending Division III champion Kearsarge Cougars 52-37 Friday night on the Marty Brown Court at the Carl D. Hill Gymnasium. The Tigers led 25-16 at the half and closed the game out with a strong second half. Lord led Newport to the win with a game-high 19 points, while Fellows added 12 and Nelson eight.

Key players: Hartford — Zoe Zanleoni, Nella Bowen, Maria Chaput
Highlights: Bowen made 18 saves for Hartford in its season-opening tie with Middlebury. Zanleoni scored two goals, with Madison Barwood, Maria Chaput and Aubree Vail each scoring a goal. Chaput’s goal was the first of her career, while Ali Morlock and Chelsea Stockwell each secured their first career points as well, both on assists.
