Diehn, Jukosky set
Mascoma records at Winnisquam

Senior Barnaby Diehn and junior Silas Jukosky set Mascoma High School records in the discus and pole vault, finishing first in both events at a meet Saturday at Winnisquam High School with 22 schools and about 500 athletes.

Diehn, who also won the shot put with a throw of 48 feet 3½ inches, had a discus throw of 164 feet, 10 inches. Jukosky cleared 9 feet in the pole vault and was fourth in the 110-meter hurdles. Also for Mascoma, Gunner Currier was second in the 3,200 run with Trevor Maheu fourth, and Sam Joyce took fifth in the 200 meters.

For the Mascoma girls, Baylee Hill was third in the high jump and Anna Emerson finished third in the javelin.

The Stevens girls were led by Audrina Pelton, who won the discus with a throw of 90 feet, 10 inches. Maddy Chambers was second in the javelin and fifth in the 100 meters.

Justin McGuire was second in the triple jump for the Stevens boys, with Owen Chapman fourth in the 100 meters and Kieran Heath fourth in the 200.

Mascoma boys tie
for first at Berlin meet

With several top-three finishes in both track and field events, the Mascoma boys tied Laconia for first place among seven teams at a meet in Berlin last week with 113 points.

For the Mascoma girls, Georgia Kondi, the defending NHIAA Division III outdoor champion in the shot put and discus who was sidelined for the indoor season with an injury, returned to her top form, winning the shot put with a throw of 27 feet, 6 inches and the discus with a toss of 102-7.

Mascoma sophomore Sam Joyce won the boys 200 meters (25.29 seconds) and 400 meters (57.24) races and was second in the 100 meters. Also for the Royals, Paxten Roberts won in the 110 hurdles (19.37); Silas Jukosky won the 300 hurdles (50.85), was third in the 110 hurdles and second in the long jump; Barnaby Diehn won the shot put (47-1) and discus (157-2) and Ethan Lewis won the javelin (115-1) and took second in the shot put. Trevor Maheu was second in the 3,200 and fourth in the 1,600 for Mascoma.

The Royals’ Aubrey Meyveagaci won the girls javelin (81-3) with teammates Anna Emerson second and Sonya Roberts third. Baylee Hill was second in the high jump for the Mascoma girls.

Boys team scores: Mascoma 113, Laconia 113, Berlin 61, Gorham 61, Profile 60, Woodsville 40. Pittsburg 22.

Girls team scores: Laconia 128, Profile 120.5, Mascoma 65, Berlin 50, Moultonborough 40, Gorham 30, Woodsville 8.5.

Perreard, Stewart are top Hanover finishers at Nashau North meet

Hanover senior Lea Perreard and sophomore Grace Stewart were the Bears’ top performers at the Nashua North Invitational track meet on Saturday.

Perreard, who was part of Hanover’s NHIAA Division II cross country championship last fall, finished the mile run in second place. Steward won the two-mile with a time of 12 minutes and 11 seconds. Also for Hanover, Aria Deeb was fourth in the 800 meters and Millie Larrick was fifth in the two-mile run. Both were also part of the cross country championship. Josie White was sixth in the 100 meters for Hanover. On the boys side, Ryan Faris was sixth and Isaac McNaughton seventh in the two-mile run. Team scores were not compiled for the meet.

Baseball

Thetford 8, Vergennes 7

Key players: Thetford — Winning pitcher Miles Lawrence threw 5⅔ innings and struck out six for the Panthers. JD Farrell went 3-for-4 at the plate, and Andrew Spooner drove in three runs.

Coach’s quote: “We overcame some defensive miscues, which I expected in the season opener after just a few practices outside. The boys played hard and executed well offensively. Both teams worked through some early jitters and played better baseball as the game went on.” — Thetford’s Kris Keelty

Softball

Thetford 16, North Country 10

Key players: Thetford — Camdyn Crow (1-3 with her first home run, 4 RBIs); Mallory Hodges (1-3 with 2 RBIs); Eiea Morgan (1-3 with 2 RBIs); Natalie Perry (1-3 with 2 RBIs); Rebecca and Ashlyn Osgood (both going 1-3). Pitcher Mckkayla Stanley was 1-3. and pitched seven innings with two strikeouts on four walks. Stanley allowed five earned runs on 12 hits.

Highlights: Crow drove in four runs on one hit to lead Thetford’s win over the Falcons. She hit an inside-the-park home run in the first inning, scoring three runs, and walked in the fifth inning, scoring one. The Panthers collected seven hits and North Country had 12 in the high-scoring game. Thetford flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the first inning, scoring five runs on three hits to take the lead, 5-2, with Crow’s inside-the-parker the biggest blow. Morgan’s single gave Thetford the lead, 7-5, in the bottom of the fourth. The Panthers used a five-run, zero-hit bottom of the fifth to secure the lead for good at 12-9, keyed by a two-run fielders choice grounder by Perry. Stanley earned the win for Thetford.

Boys Lacrosse

Portsmouth 14, Hanover 2

Key players: Hanover — Sam Bagatell (1 goal, 1 assist); Michael Anderson (1 goal); Henry Cotter (17 saves)

Highlights: Portsmouth tested the Hanover defense early and often, scoring the first goal 4½ minutes into the game. Despite a strong showing in the goal from Hanover senior captain Henry Cotter, the Clippers capitalized on a number of errors from the Bears to take a 7-0 lead after the first quarter and a 10-0 lead at half. The Bears were persistent, playing hard to the last whistle.

Highlights: Big accomplishment for Rupp as she scored her 200th career point during a physical contest with Spaulding. Very proud coach as she continues to lead and contribute both offensively and defensively for this determined team.
