HANOVER — Several homes and businesses will be without water on Tuesday due to a scheduled water infrastructure project on Summer Street, according to town staff.

The town announced a water shutdown on Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. that will affect five properties on Summer Street and six properties on Lebanon Street, including Hanover High School and the SAU 70 administrative building.

Christina Hall, deputy director of engineering and utilities, said the town will be replacing a nearly 10-foot section of water main, as well as three valves, near the intersection of Sullivan Street and Lebanon Street, as part of water infrastructure upgrades that began the week of July 10.

In addition to replacing an aged, 130-year-old water main, the new main will be wider in diameter to support sufficient water delivery to fire hydrants and buildings, according to Hall.

During the project the town had connected the homes and businesses on Lebanon and Summer streets to a temporary water line. On Tuesday the workers will be connecting the affected properties to the new service lines, Hall explained.
