HANOVER — Golden Globe Award-winning actor Sandra Oh will deliver the commencement address at Dartmouth College’s 2025 graduation ceremony on June 15. Oh will also receive an honorary doctorate of the arts at the ceremony.
“I will finally fulfill my parents’ dream of me getting a(n honorary) university degree. I am the last in my family to do so, so phew,” Oh said in a news release from the college.
Born in Canada, Oh is perhaps best known for her role as Dr. Cristina Yang in Shonda Rhimes’ medical drama series “Grey’s Anatomy.” Rhimes, a member of the Class of 1991, delivered Dartmouth’s commencement address in 2014.
Over the years, Oh has garnered a reputation for playing nuanced, self-determined characters who defy Asian stereotypes in cinema.
Two of her recent roles include secret agent Eve Polastri in the British TV drama “Killing Eve,” and Ji-Yoon Kim, the first woman to be appointed to lead a fictional university’s English department in Netflix’s TV series “The Chair.”
“Sandra Oh is one of the most versatile, intelligent, funny, soulful, and boundary-pushing actors performing today, and I am so pleased to welcome her to Dartmouth,” said Dartmouth president Sian Leah Beilock.
