POMFRET — Game wardens are investigating the illegal shooting earlier this week of a deer on Cloudland Road, according to a Friday news release from Vermont Fish & Wildlife.

Wardens responded to reports that a doe had been shot out of season in Pomfret on Wednesday. They found the doe alive, but it had to be euthanized due to its injuries. Upon further examination, officials found the doe had been pregnant with twins.

The Vermont Warden Service is seeking information about the incident. Tips can be provided to Warden David Lockerby at Westminster Barracks of the Vermont State Police at 802-722-4600. Anonymous tips also can be submitted online at: vtfishandwildlife.com/hunt/hunting-regulations/operation-game-thief
