CORINTH — An early morning fire that destroyed a mobile home on Limlaw Road was the town’s second catastrophic house fire in a five-day period, according to the Corinth Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to 76 Limlaw Road just after 3:40 a.m. on Sunday. There, they found a double-wide manufactured home engulfed in flames, Corinth Fire Chief Ed Pospisil said in a phone interview. The home was deemed a total loss.

The homeowner, Jeanine Welch, fled the house with her dogs, all unharmed, Pospisil said.

Welch told investigators that she discovered her wooden deck porch on fire after being awakened by a loud noise, Pospisil said. Welch also noted that an electric lawn mower battery, which was on her porch, had exploded.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated, though there have been cases of lithium-ion batteries catching fire, Pospisil said.

Corinth firefighters, with assistance of fire crews from the Vermont towns of Thetford, Bradford, Topsham and Groton, contained the fire by 10 a.m.

Another fire last Wednesday in Corinth destroyed a single-family home on Camp Munn Road. The cause of that fire was an overturned gas lamp, which the homeowner said he had accidentally knocked over, Pospisil said.
