CLAREMONT — The Eagle Times announced it is suspending operations, saying it is “not able to achieve business results sufficient to make the paper financially viable,” according to an email sent out Monday.

The announcement comes three weeks after the newspaper ceased printing its three-days-per week print edition, which Eagle Times owner Jay Lucas attributed to the sudden departure of key employees last month.

Other than posting Monday’s announcement, the newspaper’s website does not appear to have been updated since June 15.

On Monday, the phone number of its Claremont office was out of order and Lucas did not immediately respond to an email nor a phone call seeking comment.

“Our intent from the beginning has been to do all that we can to make it a success,” said the unsigned email that went out on Monday. “Unfortunately, while the most recent management team was able to generate high quality content and publish three weekly print editions, they were not able to achieve business results sufficient to make the paper financially viable.” As a result, The Eagle Times said it is suspending operations “for the time being, pending a full review of our operations and future options,” adding that “as we move forward we will keep you informed as to our future direction.”
