CLAREMONT — Burritos and burgers are now on offer at new chain restaurants on Washington Street.

Chipotle Mexican Grill announced the opening of a location at 384 Washington St. on Wednesday.

“The city of Claremont is fortunate to have Chipotle join us,” Claremont Mayor Dale Girard said by email Wednesday. “Their presence gives our residents another great option and we look forward to supporting their business.”

The fast-casual Mexican-style restaurant sits next door to a Wendy’s, which opened its doors on New Year’s Eve.

The new restaurants sit across from a retail plaza that includes Hobby Lobby and a state liquor store.

Chipotle, which is well known for its burritos, tacos and burrito bowls, is headquartered in Newport Beach, Calif., and operates more than 3,500 restaurants in Canada, Europe, the Middle East and the U.S.

Claremont customers can use a drive-through area, called the “Chipotlane,” to order ahead and pick up their food without leaving their cars, according to a news release issued by the company Wednesday afternoon.

Once fully staffed, the Claremont location is expected to have about 30 employees, the release said.

The location will be open daily from 10:45 a.m. to 10 p.m.
