CANAAN — The Selectboard announced Friday that Bill Bellion has been named interim fire chief while the town transitions the role of fire chief from a part-time to a full-time position.

Bellion has previously served as the department’s chief. He was succeeded in March of 2022 by John Hennessey, who resigned earlier this year. Hennessey held a full-time position with the town as its fire chief and emergency services manager until his unexpected resignation this past January.

Rick Colburn was appointed interim chief after Hennessey’s departure. When Colburn relocated out of the region in June, Hue Wetherbee was appointed interim chief.

Neither Bellion nor Town Administrator Chet Hagenbarth returned phone and email requests for comment by deadline.
