Barnard Town Meeting preview

Article of note: Voters will be asked whether to lease the old Barnard Fire Department building to BarnArts Center for the Arts for 15 years with an annual rent of $1.

Contested races: Town officers, including a three-year Selectboard seat, will be elected by ballot during the floor meeting.

Budgets and spending articles: The proposed highway fund budget is $1.76 million, of which $1.62 million is to come from taxes. The proposed general fund budget is $1.04 million, of which $746,500 is to come from taxes. Voters also will be asked to transfer $161,000 from accumulated budget surpluses into the highway fund to reconcile a highway deficit. Last year voters approved a highway budget was $1.62 million and a general fund budget of $892,000.

When, where and how to vote: Town Meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 4, at 10 a.m. at the Barnard Town Hall, 115 North Road.
