Newbury man dies in weekend rollover

NEWBURY, Vt. — A 22-year-old Newbury man died in a vehicle rollover crash on Wallace Hill Road over the weekend, Vermont State Police reported in a news release.

Daniel Sweet, a 2020 graduate of Oxbow High School, was traveling north on Wallace Hill Road in Newbury when — past the intersection with Stark Trail — his vehicle left the road, rolled and caused him to be ejected, police said a preliminary investigation found.

Sweet, who was driving a 2000 Jeep Wrangler, died from injuries sustained in the crash, police said.

Police did not provide an estimated time for when the crash occurred, but said they were dispatched to the report of a vehicle rollover at about 5:30 a.m. on Sunday.

Sweet was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to the news release.

The crash is under investigation, anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact State Police at 802-748-3111.
