Upper Valley school notes for Monday, March 24

Secondary accomplishments

Coral Riegler, of Thetford, won first place in the grade 4 to 6 class of the 2025 Art of Conservation Fish Art Contest, which is overseen by the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department.

The following Upper Valley students enrolled in the Area Vermont State University Lyndon Upward Bound program participated in the 40th Annual National TRIO Day Celebration in Nashua, N.H., in February: Leon Alcala, Woodsville High School; Rosie Paquin, Rivendell Academy; Koki Tomlinson, Rivendell Academy; and Stella Star Worcester, Rivendell Academy.

The following Upper Valley students enrolled in the Area Vermont State University Lyndon Upward Bound program attended the 2025 Green Mountain Scholars Bowl at SUNY Plattsburgh in Plattsburgh, N.Y., in March: Kylee Betz, Woodsville High School; Hunter Duval, Woodsville High School; and Rosie Paquin, Rivendell Academy.

Aleksandra Cirovic, a junior at Woodstock Union High School, and Amy Vaughan, a junior at Oxbow High School, were finalists in Sen. Bernie Sanders’ 15th annual State of the Union essay contest.

Post-secondary accomplishments

The following Upper Valley residents made the dean’s list at Emerson College in Boston for the fall 2024 semester: Emily Herbert, Claremont, business creative enterprises; Kayla Wimer, New London, media arts production; Georgia Winn, Quechee, political communication; Haley Clough, West Hartford, journalism; and Ailia Hedgepeth, Norwich, creative writing.

Post-secondary scholarship opportunities

New Hampshire residents pursuing degrees at two- and four-year colleges or trade school programs can apply for $1,000 to $3,000 scholarships from Granite Edvance. The Concord-based nonprofit organization will award scholarships in the four categories: leadership and community service, academic excellence, first generation college student, and life experience. The deadline is May 7 for students enrolled in four-year programs and July 9 for students enrolled in two-year and trade schools programs.
