WEST LEBANON — A 27-year-old West Lebanon woman has been charged with four counts of assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest after police said she fought with officers when they responded at around 10:18 a.m. to a report of a disoriented woman who appeared to be under the influence on Wednesday.

The woman, who police said had been reported to be asking for rides on Elm Street in West Lebanon, fled down an embankment and entered a stagnant body of water near the railroad tracks in the woods between Elm Street and South Main Street when police approached her at the scene, according to a news release from Lebanon police.

Despite attempts by Lebanon police and fire personnel to persuade the woman to come out of the water, she refused, police said. When officers entered the water to “escort (her) to safety,” she “began assaulting” them and attempted to swim away, according to the news release.

Four officers sustained “minor injuries” during the altercation and one officer was transported to the hospital for treatment.

The woman was evaluated at the hospital but did not suffer any injuries.

She has been charged with four counts of assaulting a police officer and one count of resisting arrest, all misdemeanors, the news release said.
