Local roundup: Bates twins lead Lebanon boys basketball past John Stark

WEARE, N.H. — That’s three in a row for the road warriors that make up the Lebanon High boys basketball team. The Raiders boarded the bus south to John Stark on Friday night and emerged with a 59-50 victory for their third straight win, all away from the confines of Lang Metcalf Gym.

The Bates boys had the touch from long range for Lebanon, now 7-6, combining for 33 points. Samuel Bates had four 3-pointers on his way to 18, and Dawson Bates added three from beyond the arc on his way to 15 points. The Raiders led from the start, building a 28-18 lead at halftime and then sealing it away with 21 points in the third quarter.

Talan Patkul chipped in 10 points and Nicholas Brill added nine points for Lebanon. The Raiders look to extend the streak to four back at home against Sanborn on Tuesday night.

Windsor 51, Woodstock 49

WINDSOR — Yellowjackets senior star Maison Fortin had had enough by the end of this back-and-forth battle. All knotted up at 49-49 in the final minute, Fortin stole the basketball and converted a go-ahead layup to send the home fans home happy in this rivalry game.

Woodstock had the upper hand early, racing out to an 18-5 lead after the first quarter. Windsor began chipping away from there, holding the Wasps to seven points in the second and then exploding for 19 in the third. The Wasps still led, 39-36, heading into the fourth.

Fortin finished with a game-high 24 points, including four 3-pointers. Corey Lockwood added 12 points, and Rodger Petermann had nine.

Declan McCullough had 19 points for Woodstock. Zach Martsolf-Tan added 11 and Ezra Lockhart had eight.

Both teams return to action Monday when Windsor (5-9) hosts Fair Haven and Woodstock (4-8) visits MSJ.

Peoples 35, Thetford 32

MORRISVILLE, Vt. — The Panthers held a four-point lead with a quarter to go, but the Wolves outscored them 10-3 in the fourth. Thetford had beaten Peoples, 55-36, just four days earlier.

Jacob Gilman led the Panthers with 12 points and Dempsey McGovern added nine. Thetford (9-3) is at Blue Mountain on Monday.

Girls Basketball Windsor 56, Burr & Burton 44

MANCHESTER, Vt. — Sophia Rockwood had 22 points to lead the Yellowjackets (14-2) to their 11th straight win.

Windsor trailed, 13-8, after the first quarter but answered with 22 points in the second to take the halftime lead. The Jacks then outscored the Bulldogs, 18-10, in the fourth quarter to lock up the win.

Audrey Rupp added 14 points and four steals for the visitors. Sydney Perry had nine points, 16 rebounds, six blocks and four assists. Brianna Barton chipped in six points.

Windsor visits Otter Valley on Tuesday.

Hanover 44, Plymouth 25

HANOVER — The Bears extended their winning streak to six with the win over the Bobcats. Hanover (11-4 overall, 10-2 NHIAA) is at Londonderry on Saturday for the first of five straight road games.

West Rutland 50, White River Valley 25

WEST RUTLAND, Vt. — The undefeated Golden Horde (15-0) had all the answers for the Wildcats (9-4).

“The weather wasn’t the only thing cold tonight. We played good defense at times, but shot only 17% from the floor. Their size and physicality was a factor,” WRV coach Tim Perreault said.

Tanner Drury had 10 points and Ella Perreault had six for the Wildcats. WRV visits Woodstock on Monday.

Fair Haven 50, Hartford 24

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — The Hurricanes (9-6) fell short against the visiting Slaters (15-1), one of the top teams in VPA Division II.

Charlotte Jasmin led Hartford with 15 points. Maddi Willey added five points. Hartford hosts Rutland on Tuesday.

Leland & Gray 39, Rivendell 12

ORFORD — The Raptors fell to 1-14 with the loss.

Shaylee Carter had four points for Rivendell, which visits White River Valley on Thursday.

Poultney 43, Mid Vermont Christian 29

POULTNEY, Vt. — The Eagles (4-8) couldn’t hold onto an early lead at the Blue Devils.

Natalie Bokinala (10 points) and Lydia Dickey (nine) led MVCS. The Eagles opened a 12-8 lead after the first quarter, but then failed to score more than seven points in any other single quarter.

MVCS will visit Danville on Tuesday.

John Stark 59, Lebanon 31

LEBANON — The Raiders (1-12) lost this matchup with the Generals.

Drew Kantor had 12 points for Lebanon. Nina Ellingson added six. The Raiders visit Sanborn on Tuesday.
