Local roundup: Hartford boys hockey rolls on Senior Night

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — The Hartford High boys hockey team continued its charge to return to its second consecutive Vermont Division II title game Friday, dispatching Burlington, 8-2, at Wendell Barwood Arena for its seventh consecutive victory. The contest was tied, 1-1, after two periods.

Ezra Mock poured in a hat trick and Joseph Barwood added two goals and two assists. Nolan Morlock, James McReynolds and Connor Tierney each had a goal and an assist and Ozzie DeFelice had two assists. Burlington goaltender Steven Labombard made 50 saves.

Hartford is 15-3, its losses coming against U32 and Division I opponents Colchester and Essex. Burlington is 10-6-1. 

The Hurricanes, who received a combined nine saves from Davey Bradley and Sean Kelliher, visit Mount Mansfield (17-1) on Monday for their regular-season finale. The Cougars have won 15 consecutive games.

Girls BasketballWindsor 61, Woodstock 23

WOODSTOCK — The Yellowjackets, still undefeated in 2023, closed the regular season with their 15th straight victory.

Sophia Rockwood had 26 points and seven rebounds for Windsor. Sydney Perry added 20 points with 13 rebounds and three steals. Brianna Barton added six points and three assists.

Georgia Tarleton had 12 points for Woodstock (3-17) and Norah Harper added seven.

The defending champion Yellowjackets graduated their entire starting five from a season ago and started the season somewhat slowly at 3-2 before running off those 15 straight wins. The Jacks finish the regular season at 18-2 and appear to have locked up the No. 1 seed in the VPA Division III playoffs.

Lebanon 41, Timberlane 33

PLAISTOW, N.H. — The Raiders picked up a road win over the Owls, improving to 3-15. Lebanon concludes the regular season Tuesday at Bishop Brady.

Arlington 52, Mid Vermont Christian 17

QUECHEE — The MVCS Eagles finished the regular season at 5-12.

 

Boys BasketballWhite River Valley 69, Twin Valley 22

WHITINGHAM, Vt. — The Wildcats (11-7) jumped all over Twin Valley to earn a road win.

Tattin Griffin led WRV with 17 points. Brayden Russ had a double-double with 11 points and 10 steals. Zander Clark had 14 points and Wyatt Cadwell chipped in 12.

The Wildcats will visit Rivendell on Tuesday.

Thetford 62, Williamstown 39

THETFORD — The Panthers opened this one with 22 points in the first quarter and never looked back against the Blue Devils.

Mitchell Parkman (12 points) and Boone Fahey (11) led a balanced Thetford attack. Matt Vivian and Dempsey Durkee each had eight points and Hunter Clay and Jacob Gilman had seven each.

Thetford (14-4) visits Montpelier on Monday to open the final week of the regular season.

Hanover 55, Kingswood 49

WOLFEBORO, N.H. - The Bears overcame a slow start to earn their fourth win in the last five games.

Kingswood opened the game on a 17-8 run but Hanover answered by winning each of the final three quarters, including scoring 20 points in the fourth to seal the win. Ryan McLaughlin led the Bears with 16 points. Dave Frechette added 11 and Christian Blix had seven points.

Hanover (4-12) hosts ConVal on Tuesday.

Danville 58, Mid Vermont Christian 43

DANVILLE, Vt. — The Eagles fell to the Bears, finishing the regular season at 15-5. MVCS has a week off before the VPA Division IV playoffs.
