NEWPORT — The Mascoma High girls soccer team is off to a flying start.
The Royals improved to 2-0-0 this season with a 4-1 victory over Newport on Wednesday. The decision matched Mascoma’s win total from last year’s 16-match campaign and is one short of the tally from the third-year varsity program’s previous seasons combined.
The Tigers’ Cassie Sancoen opened the scoring during the early minutes, and Newport held the lead through halftime. The Royals forged a tie in the 60th minute with an Emily Seiler goal, followed minutes later when Spanish exchange student Andrea Fernandez scored off a Seiler pass.
Mascoma went up, 3-1, with Seiler heading in an Izzie Adams pass with five minutes remaining. Kamdyn Aldrich closed the scoring not long after.
The Royals are at Berlin (0-3-0) on Friday, while the Tigers (0-1-0) visit Inter-Lakes (0-4-0) the same day.
CONCORD — The Bears (1-2-0) surrendered three goals before halftime, receiving their score from Sophie Wise.
Hanover hosts Timberlane (3-1-0) on Friday.
HILLSBORO, N.H. — The Cardinals scored six goals during the opening 20 minutes and improved to 2-1-1 while dropping HD to 0-4-0.

LEBANON — Otto Bourne had a goal and an assist and Lebanon moved to 4-0-0 with a defeat of last season’s NHIAA Division II runner-up. Kingswood is 1-2-1.
Nick Brill scored for Lebanon, which also received an assist from Connor China and three saves from Zach Aldrich.
The Raiders host Hollis-Brookline on Friday.
WEST CANAAN — The Royals blanked the Saints for their second straight victory.
Mascoma’s Aubrey Meyveagaci opened the scoring during the first quarter with her first varsity goal. Makenna Houston assisted on that tally and also scored her team’s final two goals after halftime.
Royals field hockey coach Daniell Pushee said her team kept the Saints pinned on their side of the field behind the midfield trio of Kylie Rogers, Kara Miller and Ellie McGrody.
Mascoma, which surrendered no shots, hosted Mascenic on Thursday.
WOODSTOCK — Jaden Poirier led Hartford to victory in its season opener, shooting a round of 35 at the Woodstock Country Club.
He was followed by teammates Thomas Thorburn (44), Sean Dunton (46) and Matthew Tsouknakis (48). Poirier’s score was second overall, behind only a 33 by Otter Valley’s Lucas Politano.
The Hurricanes vist Rivendell on Tuesday for a match at Lake Morey Country Club and travel to Mount Anthony a day later.
