Otter Valley tops Hartford, Woodstock at SVL finals

Propelled by the play of Lucas Politano, Otter Valley emerged victorious on Tuesday at the SVL Championship, surging past Hartford and Woodstock, which finished in second- and third-place, respectively.

Politano, the 2024 Vermont Amateur champion, carded a 71 at Woodstock Country Club, the lowest mark among the 24 golfers who registered scores. Mill River’s Mattie Serafin finished in solo second, shooting a 72. Windsor freshman Jake Smith and Otter Valley’s Jackson Howe both shot an 83, finishing in a tie for third place.

Hartford senior Matt Tsouknakis’ round of 88 led the way for the reigning VPA Division II state champions, with Thomas Thorburn (89), Carter Williams (89) and Rowan Irvine (91) rounding out the Hurricanes’ scoring. Reid Allegretti carded Woodstock’s lowest score, an 89, followed closely by Kyler Eaton and Max Carey, who both shot a 90.

Attention now turns to the D-II sectionals tournament held at Neshobe Golf Club on Tuesday, where a top-six team finish secures a berth in the state tournament at Burlington Country Club on Oct. 10. A top-five finish from an individual not on a qualifying team will also earn a bid to Burlington.
