The Dartmouth College women’s volleyball team welcomed Providence, Quinnipiac and Siena to the confines of Leede Arena this weekend for the Big Green’s first home matches of the 2024 season.

Coach Kevin Maureen Campbell’s squad won all three contests, including a reverse sweep of Quinnipiac after dropping the opening two sets on Saturday. The results marked the third time in four seasons that the Big Green have gone undefeated at the Dartmouth Invitational.

The trio of victories moves Dartmouth to 7-2 in Campbell’s second year in charge, two wins shy of tying last season’s win total. After managing a 6-8 record in conference play in 2023, the Big Green open Ivy League play on Friday, traveling to Cambridge, Mass., for a date with Harvard at 7 p.m.

Here’s how Dartmouth’s other fall sports programs fared this past week:

Football begins season with rout of Fordham

It wasn’t a perfect performance — that much second-year coach Sammy McCorkle made clear — but Dartmouth’s 45-13 beatdown of Fordham is about as good a start to the season as McCorkle could ask for.

Senior cornerback Jordan Washington was named the Ivy League’s Special Teams Player of the Week after blocking a Fordham field goal, picking up the loose ball and darting 60 yards down the field for a touchdown.

Senior linebacker Micah Green was also honored for his good works last week — but for his actions off the field rather than his performance on it. Green was named to the 2024 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team last Tuesday, marking Dartmouth’s second-straight nominee following former long snapper Josh Greene’s selection last season.

Women’s rugby blanks Queens

Dartmouth followed up its commanding 93-0 victory over Princeton with a second consecutive shutout, knocking off Queens University (N.C.) 36-0 in the programs’ first meeting. The victory improves the Big Green to 3-0 on the season, having outscored their opponents 178-5.

Dartmouth returns to Hanover on Saturday to host Sacred Heart (1-1) at 11 a.m. at Brophy Field.

Cross country teams sweep Codfish Bowl

Not one, not two, but now three straight first-place event finishes for the Big Green women to open the 2024 season.

Braving the elements in Boston at the Codfish Bowl, senior Ellie Tymorek paced Dartmouth with a time of 18 minutes, 22 seconds — a mark more than 17 seconds faster than her teammate freshman Esme Daplyn, who finished in second. Sophomore Claire McDonald earned a third-place finish after registering a time of 18:57.6, securing a podium sweep for the Big Green.

With a quintet of freshmen, Dartmouth men also earned first-place honors at the meet, paced by Connor Foley, who clocked the fastest time at 25:48.8.

Women’s soccer wins final nonconference game

Make that three consecutive wins for coach Taylor Schram and the Big Green following their 2-1 victory over UMass Lowell on Saturday.

First-half goals from senior forwards Hannah Curtin and Dasa Hase proved the decider, despite a late River Hawks tally cutting into Dartmouth’s two-goal cushion. The win pushes the Big Green to 6-2-1 with nonconference play wrapped up.

Seven straight Ivy League games await Dartmouth now, beginning with Yale on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Burnham Field. The Big Green, who were slated in fifth in the conference’s preseason poll, have not finished at or above .500 in conference play since 2018.

Sailing earns pair of top-five finishes

Dartmouth debuted its new boathouse this past weekend while hosting the 26th annual Mrs. Hurst Trophy on Mascoma Lake, registering a fourth- and sixth-place finish. The Big Green also competed in Providence, R.I., at Brown’s Hoyt Trophy, earning a third-place nod at the regatta.

Men’s soccer splits pair of games

Wrapping up a five-game nonconference homestand this past week, coach Bo Oshoniyi’s squad was blown out 5-0 by UMass last Tuesday before responding with a 2-1 victory over Bryant. Senior midfielder Ben Jenkins’ goal in the 81st minute secured the win.

Dartmouth (2-3-1) traveled to North Andover, Mass., to face Merrimack on Tuesday before hosting Brown on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Burnham Field in its Ivy League opener.

Men’s golf finishes middle of the pack in season opener

Sophomore Tyler Brand led the way for the Big Green at their season-opening tournament over the weekend, shooting 1 over par across two days of play at the Temple Invitational. Brand finished in a tie for third, one shot behind the leaders.

Dartmouth placed sixth out of 12 teams in Plymouth Meeting, Pa., and will return to the course next weekend in Lake Placid, N.Y., for the Columbia Autumn Invitational.

Field hockey falls to Harvard

The Big Green dropped their lone game of the week, a 3-1 defeat to No. 8 Harvard (4-1) on Saturday. Sophomore midfielder Lucia Campano, a second-team All-Ivy honoree last season, scored Dartmouth’s lone tally, her second goal of the season.

The loss dropped coach Mark Egner’s squad to 1-4-0 ahead of Friday’s Ivy home date with Cornell.
