Newport library honors author Chris Bohjalian with annual award

NEWPORT — Chris Bohjalian has been selected as the 2023 Sarah Josepha Hale Award medalist.

For over 50 years the Trustees of the Richards Free Library in Newport have selected a recipient of the award, which is named in honor of Hale, an author who was born in Newport in 1788 and went on to become editor of “Godey’s Lady’s Magazine.” 

Bohjalian has authored more than 20 novels including “Midwives,” “The Flight Attendant” and “The Lioness,” according to a news release from the library. He will accept the award at 7 p.m. Sept. 23 during a ceremony at the Newport Opera House.
