NH medical examiner: Newport girl, 5, died of ‘natural’ cause

NEWPORT — The Newport Police Department has closed the investigation into the October death of a five-year-old child after the manner of death was deemed “natural” by the New Hampshire chief medical examiner.
On Oct. 4, the child was pronounced dead at the Valley Regional Hospital in Claremont after emergency personnel responded to a report of an unresponsive person.
On Feb. 28, the state’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner notified Newport Police that the cause of death was “toxic megacolon due to chronic idiopathic constipation,” according to a Thursday news release.
The Claremont Police Department and New Hampshire State Police Troop C assisted Newport Police in the investigation.
