WEST LEBANON — An elderly driver lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a bus stop near Jiffy Lube before coming to a rest in the parking lot of Glen Road Plaza in West Lebanon on Thursday.

The 87-year-old was transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center for evaluation and treatment of minor injuries, according to Lebanon police, but the Advance Transit bus stop structure on the west side of Route 12A was destroyed and removed.

Lebanon police said they were called at 9:13 a.m. with a report that a white passenger van had struck the bus stop, crossed the centerline and went through the landscaping on the east side of the road before stopping outside Blue Mountain Guitar in Glen Road Plaza.

The driver was exiting the Hannaford supermarket parking lot and turned southbound on Route 12A before she struck the shelter, according to Lebanon Police Chief Phil Roberts. On Friday morning, a concrete slab with yellow tape around the perimeter marked off the spot where the bus stop had stood. The result could have been much worse.

“The fortunate part of this incident is that at that time of day there was nobody waiting there at the bus stop,” Roberts said.
